Calling all FMV artists! Unleash your love for your favorite movies, TV shows, games, or anime by creating an FMV that captures its essence in a movie trailer format. Whether it’s a dramatic action movie, a heart-wrenching romance, a show-stopping cosplay video or a meme-worthy comedy, the sky’s the limit!
FMV is short for “fan music video”, and are videos created by fans using clips from movies, TV shows, anime, games, clips of themselves in cosplay or other visual media, set to music. FMV’s can range from simple compilations of clips to more elaborate productions with edited effects, samples from other mediums and fanmade storylines.
We want you to create FMV’s inspired by movie trailers or advertisements for your favorite fandom. Feel free to be inspired by existing movie trailers and unskippable ads on YouTube.
1: The video has to be at least 30 seconds long, or 2 minutes at the most.
2: The video has to be edited in a horizontal format (16:9).
3: You are allowed to use any editing software.
4: You are allowed to sample material from all types of media: anime, video games, movies, TV-shows, music videos etc.
5: You are allowed to mix media to create fanworks for fanfiction or ships.
6: You are welcome to film your own videos in cosplay!
Judges criteria
Our judges will judge the trailers on these criterias:
The video should tell a cohesive story or stay within a theme.
The video should evoke feelings for the audience. We want nothing more than to laugh, cry, or get butterflies.
The video should be watchable and enjoyable for everyone in the audience, both life-long fans and those you are introducing the fandom to for the first time.
The FMV competition is not an editing competition and you won’t be judged on which editing software you use, but the judges will look at what you did with what you got. We know that FMV editors spend hours making these videos and you should be applauded for your music choice, your storytelling and your editing skills.
Age-rating:
All videos must be PG13. This includes the music as well.
Please ask us if you are unsure if the content / music you want to use falls within this guideline.
You can depict fighting scenes, as long as there’s no graphic injury detail. Depictions of blood are allowed if it isn’t too gratuitous.
We ask you to use common sense and follow Norwegian norms when it comes to sexual content. Don’t show us something you wouldn’t show both your mother and a younger family member. Sexual references or humor is allowed if they aren’t too graphic or crude. You are not allowed to show footage of the act of intercourse. Sexual violence is not allowed.
You are allowed to swear sparingly. Derogatory slurs and hate speech are not allowed.
Drug use may be allowed if it’s implied, brief and not graphic. Smoking and alcohol use is allowed.
